Abia State Police Command began aerial and land surveillance ahead of the call for a sit-at-home protest by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) which generated tension on Monday in Umuahia the Abia State capital.
IPOB members have seen distributing flyers to shop owners in order to enforce the order; this has therefore created fears in some residents who said they may not open their shops on Tuesday to avoid being attacked by IPOB members.
Also report has it that some private schools in the Umuahia have asked parents to keep their children at home until Wednesday to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.
Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, the Abia state Commissioner, confirmed the exercise but said his command has reviewed the security architecture of the state and reassured Abia citizens that their fundamental human rights would be guarded as enshrined in the constitution.
He said that the surveillance is part of the command’s security arrangement and urged all residents in the state to go about their lawful business without entertaining any fear of molestation.
