Is it that time of the year when you are burning to take a break from regular work, and are planning to treat yourself to a fun-filled holiday? Are you stuck on choosing the best destination for your adventure?
Whether visiting from outside the country or living within its borders, Kenya offers a myriad of destinations and activities to spice up your holiday.
Below is a list of some of the destinations you cannot afford to miss.
Nairobi National Park
The Nairobi national park is one of the largest parks in the country, boasting a wide variety of wildlife and birdlife; including some of the rarest species. The park also boasts of walking trails for those who love hiking, picnic sites and campsites. It is located just a few kilometers from the country’s capital city.
Kenyan Coast
A trip to the Kenyan coast, which hosts Kenya’s second-largest city - Mombasa is something you cannot afford to miss. Both the south coast and the north coast offer expansive crystal sandy beaches, elegant resorts, all sorts of water activities and games plus a wide range of delicious traditional cuisine from the native Swahili folks. While there, remember to visit the famous Fort Jesus and the Gedi ruins. Mombasa also offers a Marine park where you can explore a variety of marine life from the sides, in a glass-bottomed boat or in a traditional dhow!
Masai Mara
Home to the largest wildlife migration route and one of the wonders of the world, the Masai Mara National Park offers spectacular views of the wildebeest migration. Here, you get a first-hand experience of the tough choice these animals have to make between starvation and the battle against hungry crocodiles in the River Mara. The host Maasai community whose culture is simply amazing will leave you awed by their dancing styles, attire and friendly nature.
Lake Nakuru
Why it is not called the pink lake is still unknown to me. The lake, just neighboring Nakuru town, has its shows lined with thousands, if not millions of pink flamingo gracefully wading in the shallow shores. The presence of the Lake Nakuru National Park makes it an ideal place for the lovers of wildlife, bird-watching, and photography.
The Rift Valley
A scenic view as you drive from Nairobi towards Nakuru presents to you the Great Rift Valley. The rift extends sideways as it continues its stretch, encompassing a series of spectacular features such as lakes, volcanoes, plateaus and forest reserves. Hot water springs in Lake Bogoria, Hells Gate National Park, Crescent Island amongst others form part of the attractions. Here, activities including hiking, trekking, bird watching, photography, picnics, and community visits are welcome.
The list above presents just a shortened list of the best places to travel in Kenya. Naturally, the country enjoys a tropical climate all year round save for the cool winter that happens between June and August. The natives are very friendly and welcoming, easy to interact with and keen on making lasting relationships.
