AND THE BACKLASH HAS BEGUN AND YOU AIN"T SEEN NOTHIN' YET

AT LEAST TWO CITIES ARE TAKING ACTION AGAINST ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. The mayors of Hazleton, Pa and Avon Park Florida are pursuing city ordinances that would not only make it illegal to rent/lease housing to illegal immigrants but will require that business in the cities will be conducted in English..

"...Avon Park's would deny business permits to companies that knowingly hired illegal immigrants. The ordinance, which states that illegal immigration "destroys our neighborhoods and diminishes our overall quality of life," would also make English the official language of Avon Park, removing Spanish from all city documents, signs and automated phone messages.


I figure that this is just a start and unless congress acts soon to stop the flow of illegal immigrants and takes steps to prosecute those abetting illegal immigrants more and more local communities will start to take this kind of action. And it is gonna cause some problems.

Racial profiling? Yep. I reckon so. Verification of social security numbers? I most certainly hope so. My friends, the laws are on the books..all we have to do is insist that they be enforced. And where else better to start the enforcement than at the local level. No, the businessmen that depend on the cheaper Mexican labor are not going to like it.

And yeah, it may damn well make it harder for them to compete. But the way I look at it is if the only way they can compete is by breaking the nations laws then they are no better than the drug smugglers and pushers and may just be in the wrong business. I have no doubt that the good and honest businessmen will survive..it is the marginal and crooked producers who will have the problems. And I ask you this...if the company is willing to wink at immigration laws and hire illegal immigrants just what else will they wink at? Tax laws maybe? How about sanitation laws and the legal use of pesticides and herbicides? If they are willing to break the immigration laws to increase their profit margins I have no doubt that they are also willing and do break the other laws that govern their businesses as well.
